How Does Your Light Shine

Romans 13:12

The Night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armour of light.
As the Apostle Paul wrote these words to the church of Rome we must understand that Paul believed that the return of Christ could come even in his day. This is why he was telling the christians to be ready at all times, because we know not the hour of our Lords return. Jesus himself warned us that he would come at a time when the faithful were sure he would not come. Listen to the words of our Lord and King, Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. This was Jesus way of telling us to always keep a check on how we live in this world. As Gods devoted children its' important to him that we show his light at all times in the midst of this dark world.
Today many christians think they can live like the world and still portray the look of Godliness. However this is far from the gospel truth.
For example in 1st Thessalonians 5:22 we are told to abstain from all appearances of evil.
So what was the writer trying to tell us as the children of God? Could it be he was trying to tell us we are the only picture of Christ this world is going to see? You see we are the light of God in this dark and lonely world and people are crying out all over the world for answers. But here lately the church has not been showing a true picture to those around us. We cannot preach Jesus and how much he is in our lives and continually give off the appearance of evil.
You would have to agree that if we are saying one thing and doing another it kind of puts dimness to our gospel light that is suppose to be shining from us. For this reason we as Gods children should always be spiritually ready to cast off the works of darkness, in Luke 12:35 Jesus tells us to "Let your loins be girded about and your lights burning" this is your spiritual light.
Think about this - You and I the believer are waiting for our Lords return we don't know the hour but we do know that he is coming back for his church. What do you think he will be looking for when he returns to get his church?

Looking Back

Luke 9:62 "And Jesus sais unto him:No man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God. This is Jesus reply to a man who said I follow you Lord!!!The man said I will follow you Lord but let me go and say farewell, to my family that is at my house. Jesus knew if this man went back he would never follow because the pull to stay would be so hard. Many of us have done the same as this man we have said Lord I will follow you but we always wanted to look back. Looking back can only acomplish one thing it will distract us from what Jesus wants and has for us. When we look back at the past all we are doing is giving Satan our enemy an oportunity to remind us of our past failures. Jesus new if man was to follow Him that he would have to put the past behind and plow straight forward. Looking back causes us to open ourselves up to living a life of pain and hurt. What does the past hold for you and I? WE all no we made mistakes caused hurt to someone we never meant to do those things but they happened just the same. When we open the door of our hearts to Jesus so He can come in and bring us into the new birth all that is put under the blood. For you and I to keep looking back at the past we are putting a hole in our umbrella of protection which allows the enemy to creep in and attack us.In 1 Kings 19:19-21 is the story of the call of Elijah to Elisha The story says Elisha was plowing with his oxen and Elijah said to him follow me. It says Elisha laid down the plow and ran after Elijah. When he caught up to Elijah he said: Let me go back and kiss my father and mother goodby.Elijah shouts out GO BACK!! What have I done to you. The story said Elisha went back but it says he killed the oxen used the wooden yoke to build a fire and cook the oxen and fed every body and then took off to find Elijah and he became Elijahs attendent: WE could says Elisha burnt his bridges so that there was nothing to look back at and followed after the man of God. We know that Elisha became a great Prophet of God Could it be that it was because he never looked back again. In one of my studies I found this prayer it says that the writter is Anonymous. In closing for today I want to give you this prayer to read and meditate in."Keep me from turning back!Myhand is on the plow,My faltering hand. The wilderness and solitary place,The lonely desert with its interspace,Keep me from turning back. The handles of my plow With tears are wet,The shares with rust are spoiled. And yet and yet, My God,my God, Keep me from turning back. You and I have to come to that point where we say LORD KEEP ME FROM LOOKING BACK. Have a Blessed and Healthy DAY IN JESUS NAME: From Pastor Ken
